Scoliosis is not just a single plane curvature of the spine, but rather a three dimensional deformity. Although bracing and even surgery may be required for severe cases, mild conditions of scoliosis can be effectively managed with physical therapy and chiropractic care. The goal is to achieve an overall balance to the body, including the head, neck, trunk, hips and legs; not necessarily to eliminate the deformity entirely. Emphasis is placed on activating the deep postural core muscles in order to support and stabilize the spine towards midline. Manual therapy techniques, stretching and modalities are also used to achieve this goal.
